FURUKI YO-KIMONO VINTAGE
FURUKI YO-KIMONO VINTAGE is London’s first vintage kimono boutique, founded by Japanese kimono collector Sonoe Sugawara. She carefully handpicks vintage pieces from the 1900s to the 1970s—including pre- and post-war designs, Art Deco–era kimono, folk garments, workwear, and distinctive textiles—sourcing items suitable for all ages, genders, and occasions.
Sonoe has collaborated with museums including the V&A Museum—for the Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk exhibition—and the Southbank Centre, and has become a trusted resource for Western kimono enthusiasts, including designers from leading global fashion houses and costume designers in the film industry.
Sonoe is also the organiser of YOKIMONO JAPANESE MARKET, a Japan-themed market and festival launched in 2019. The event brings together and showcases London-based Japanese artists, musicians, craftspeople, and food makers, sharing their work—yokimono, meaning “good things” in Japanese—with the East London community.
In 2025, YOKIMONO JAPANESE MARKET was invited to host markets at the Royal Festival Hall at the Southbank Centre and at Riverside East in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford.
