Brixton People's Kitchen
Founded in 2011, BPK began as a response to the lack of inclusive social spaces and the growing issue of domestic food waste. The organisation started by hosting community lunches in parks, car parks, and school playgrounds, creating spaces where neighbours could cook, eat, and learn from one another.
Since then, they’ve built a kitchen on a bicycle, hosted pop-up meals, supported older adults through shared dining, and worked with communities across South London to improve access to good food and meaningful connection.
BPK runs a range of inclusive programmes, from a community grocery shop, surplus food cafés and cooking workshops to community dinners and skills training. Their work brings people together across generations and cultures, tackling food waste while creating joyful, welcoming spaces for learning, sharing, and mutual care.
