La Fundación Gabo es una institución creada por el periodista y nobel de literatura colombiano Gabriel García Márquez. Desde 1995 realiza talleres, premios, becas, publicaciones y lidera iniciativas para transmitir a las nuevas generaciones el sueño de Gabo de hacer el mejor periodismo del mundo: un periodismo independiente que busca investigar, descifrar y explicar la realidad de manera rigurosa, ética y creativa, para que la ciudadanía esté mejor informada. En su misión de promover un mejor periodismo y el legado de Gabo, la Fundación Gabo lidera iniciativas como el Festival Gabo, el Premio Gabo y el Centro Gabo.We are an organization created by the Colombian journalist and Nobel laureate Gabriel García Márquez, known affectionately as Gabo. Since 1995, we have organized workshops, awards, scholarships, and publications, and championed new initiatives so as to build on Gabo’s dream and pass it one to new generations. His dream was to help forge a Journalism that is truly independent and investigative, one that can decode and explain reality in an ethical and creative way, so that the public is better informed.

<h2>Local solutions for global change</h2><p>The protection of Indigenous and local communities is essential for ensuring a healthy environment and key in combating climate change and deforestation. In this session, journalists discuss how to cover and communicate local stories of livelihoods and resistance in the face of environmental change and globalization, the role of local communities in fighting global environmental challenges, and the positive, or sometimes unintended, consequences of initiatives that promote sustainable livelihoods. </p><p>Panelists:</p><p>Josh Cogan (USA), photographer and anthropologist; Annika McGinnis (Uganda) co-founder of InfoNile.org, and Disha Shetty (India), independent science journalist, in conversation with journalist Camilo Jiménez Santofimio (Colombia).</p><p></p>
