Since 1995, we have organized workshops, awards, scholarships, and publications, and championed new initiatives so as to build on Gabo’s dream and pass it one to new generations. His dream was to help forge a Journalism that is truly independent and investigative, one that can decode and explain reality in an ethical and creative way, so that the public is better informed.

<h2>Investigating power in environmental crises</h2><p>Perceived resource scarcity and rapidly growing global demand can lead to environmental conflict and ecological degradation. In these contexts, ownership, commercial, and financial interests are often invisible. In this seminar, journalists who have successfully investigated contended lands, toxic pollution, and the downside of even well-meaning conservation efforts in a variety of geographic contexts will discuss approaches to investigating the corruption and power struggles behind today’s key threats to the environment.</p><p>Panelists:</p><p>Wahyu Dhyatmyka (Indonesia), editor in chief at Tempo.co; Amy Martin (USA), founder and executive producer of Threshold; and María Ramírez (Venezuela), journalist at El Correo del Caroní, in conversation with Patricia Campos Mello (Brasil) journalist at Folha de S.Paulo</p><p></p>
